About My Photography

I take pictures because it’s an obsession, a compulsion, an addiction, a need to create, to document my life, to express and explore and learn. It satisfies my creative cravings. It magnifies the beauty in the simplest, most ordinary things and gets me wound up over them. It’s the joy in knowing that I just created a fine photograph and then often not knowing exactly how I did it at all and hoping that I can do it again and again. The best part is that no one can or needs to validate this emotion because the photo feels right to me and does not need an explanation as to why it works.

A Photo A Day began on December 26, 2009 and has evolved from just a fun Facebook and Flickr photo album into a precious photo journal told with words and photographs. A Photo A Day then paved the path to opening my Etsy Shop, where I sell my vintage-inspired, fine art photographic prints. Photography, blogging, and selling prints together have become the perfect platform for creativity and expression, and the trio is my single greatest source of joy. My work can now be seen at Homesense, Winners, Beyond the Rack, Homesav, Totsy, Simple Pleasures, The Saskatoon Farm, and Smith’s Marketplace.

Just like dear life and its surprises, my photos are this, that, here, there, and everywhere. You’ll find no cohesiveness, no consistency, no direction, just spontaneity, capturing all the things in my life from the greatest, most significant, to the smallest, most insignificant. Each photograph, no matter how seemingly simple, strange, or ordinary, is tied to a moment, which is tied to another moment, and another moment, and then another – they are an endless reminder of infinite moments.

I don’t have raging ambitious goals with my photography although I’d love to ‘make it’ one day and become a relatively known artist with my own gallery. As it stands, I shoot mostly to fulfill my own joys and desires and that makes this love of mine remain my true love. It’s about creative expression and documentation while preserving the passion, developing the skill, exploring, having fun, and touching lives in a small way wherever and whenever I can. It’s about making a little bit of pocket money through my small entrepreneurial ways, but not do too much so as to turn it into a chore or an obligation.

I created this blog to turn my Facebook and Flickr albums into a real, official photo journal that piggybacks a portfolio. And with that, A Photo A Day is on the regular for as long as I’m addicted to it.

Truly, I am so grateful and so happy to have the opportunity to share my work and my world with you, so thank you so much for stopping by! I hope for one of two things: that something catches your eye or that you leave this blog with a smile. :) And whenever you have a moment of boredom, I invite you to frolic along with the others at charleneprecious.etsy.com.
